Michiya Nishino, M.D., Ph.D. is the Director of Head and Neck Pathology and Program Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and he is Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. He is an Associate Editor for Cancer Cytopathology and also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Society of Cytopathology, Cytopathology, Head & Neck Pathology, and Seminars in Diagnostic Pathology. He was lead author of chapters in the 2nd and 3rd editions of The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology, including spearheading the new molecular testing chapter for the 3rd edition.

His primary clinical and academic interests include surgical pathology & cytopathology of head&neck, thyroid, and salivary gland tumors, as well as the application of molecular testing in these settings. He has been recognized for his medical education activities and enjoys opportunities to support and engage with the cytopathology community through lectures, practical slide sessions, and service in various professional societies.
