The international academy of cytology (IAC) serves as an umbrella organization for many national societies of cytology around the world
A national cytology society representing the interest of its majority of medical members (for example pathologist, cytopathologist) may request affiliation with the International Academy of Cytology by letter of request signed by the responsible officer of said national society. The society must be nationally registered and have a constitution. The Board of Directors of Academy by majority vote decides on acceptance of this request.
A national editor is appointed by each national society to serve as a liaison officer between the editor of ACTA and the respective society.
