Enabling cytopathologists from low-income countries
Supported Medical Membership was created in 2016 to encourage membership of doctors who find the financial obligations of membership impossible to cover. Every three years, the Executive Council review the program to assess the effectiveness and decide future action.
To create a definition for supported membership, the IAC use a report created for the United Nations.

Mandatory Requirements
The applicant must work and live in one of the low-income countries as defined by the UN-report.
The professional criteria for medical membership will remain. All applications will be individually reviewed. A medical degree and a completed education in a medical specialty (e.g. pathology, gynecology, internal medicine etc.) in the country of residence in addition to special expertise in cytology.
You will also need two Members or Fellows of the academy to sponsor your application. If you have problems finding sponsors,
please contact the central office for assistance. Your sponsor may send a brief e-mail to the central office informing us if unable
to sign the form personally.
The number of such applicants per year will be limited and given on a „first come first served” basis.

The applicant will have no or very little financial burden and will attain a regular membership
status on an annual basis until 2019 if requested annually.

What Happens After Your Application Has Been Received
Once your application has been preliminary reviewed you will receive an email reply. You may be asked to supply further documentation if necessary.
After approval each member receives an email with access details to the IAC Members area. A letter of acceptance and your diploma will be sent by airmail. If an application can not be approved any payments will be refunded. A small administration fee will be charged.
All applications are submitted monthly to the Membership Committee for approval and then to the Executive Council. Applications received towards the end of the year will be held until the beginning of the coming year.
Completion of the membership process can take up to two months.
