Fellowship Elevation (FIAC)


INTERNATIONAL BOARD OF CYTOPATHOLOGY EXAMINATION

After two years of medical membership in the IAC, applicants are eligible to sit for the International Board of Cytopathology. This voluntary examination is a comprehensive examination in all  aspects of cytology and gives cytopathologists the opportunity to test their abilities in their field of practice.

Mandatory Requirements

Medical membership (MIAC) of at least 2 (two) years in the IAC

A colleague or superior in the medical profession who can recommend your character and professional standards. (Will be contacted directly by email from the central office.)

The fee is Euro 450 and can be paid online or by Euro bank transfer. Please ask the central office if you require an invoice.

Please Note: IAC Membership or Fellowship does not circumvent the regulations of licensing agencies of individual countries. Before seeking employment in another country it is advisable to check the national regulations.

Successful candidates receive a certificate of the IAC International Board of Cytopathology. They are also invited to become Fellow of the International Academy of Cytology for the duration of their membership in the IAC.

Examination Details

The examination consists of a written, a visual and a practical (microscopic slide) test. All questions are multiple choice.

Languages currently available are English and German. Further languages will be available at a later date.

The examination is held digitally. Each candidate will be asked to bring their own hardware. We recommend testing your hardware at the IAC mock exam.

The examination for the International Board of Cytopathology is generally given approximately six to eight times each year worldwide.

There are approximately 80 written questions, 80 projected image questions and 30 microscopic slides and lasts approximately six hours.

The test is comprehensive and covers all body sites. (For example: Gynecologic, Urine, sputum, fluids and
fine needle aspirations of multiple organs).

Major emphasis lies on personal experience. Practice in cytopathology of all body sites on a regular basis should serve as sufficient preparation for the exam. There is no practice material available.
