Draft: International Academy of Cytology Advanced Training Program

Advanced training in cytopathology supported by the International Academy of Cytology (IAC). The program follows the IAC’s vision for excellence in cytopathology for optimal patient care.

Mission Statement

In recent decades, great advances have been made with respect to the classification of diseases with the use of more sophisticated diagnostic techniques. Consequently, a wide spectrum of diseases may be treated with individualized therapy. Furthermore, many hospitals/departments lack enough cases per year in certain highly specialized fields to allow cytopathologists to obtain sufficient training in cytology to meet the clinical requirements. Pathologists, therefore, need in-depth training in general or specific fields of Cytopathology.
IAC has developed an IAC-Advanced trainee program (IAC-ATP) to support education in highly specialized areas in the field of cytopathology. The objective of the program is to train young cytopathologists and residents in the final year to get in-depth experience in Cytopathology at selected training centers (IAC Advanced Training Centers) as well as to disseminate gained knowledge to peers in the cytopathology community.

Advanced Training Center Status

The status of an IAC Advanced Training Center (IAC-ATC) is a recognition that the center offers advanced training in Cytopathology and that can provide it to international fellows. This status reflects the dedication of the Faculty to Education. The title of IAC-ATC is awarded to the Institute as a whole.

IAC ATCs must fulfil certain general conditions. Such conditions are mainly revolved around the training of international fellows and education in general.
