The Maurice Goldblatt Award

The GOLDBLATT AWARD was inaugurated in 1960 by the late Maurice Goldblatt, the founder and Honorary Chairman of the Cancer Research Foundation in Chicago.

The awards are funded in perpetuity by the interest of a $ 50,000 donation in a special account of the IAC. The jury of the Goldblatt Awards consists of The Chair of the Awards Committee and the previous awardees. The Awards have been given yearly since 1961. Recipients have been 53 cytologists from 21 countries. Recipients receive a gold medal and an honorarium.

The Maurice Goldblatt Awards 2014, 2015 and 2016 were presented at the opening ceremony of the 19th International Congress of Cytology, Yokohama, Japan,  May 2016 by the chairman of the award committee Dr.  Volker Schneider.

For his stewardship of the International Academy as president with vigor and innovative ideas; for organizing a highly successful International Congress of cytology in Paris; for wide ranging achievements in research, teaching and service of clinical cytology; for educating and teaching several generations of young pathologists in cytologic techniques.

Lukas Bubendorf, MD, MIAC

For his innovative efforts to develop, test and introduce novel and modern techniques for the clinical practice in all aspects of cytology; for his wide ranging achievements in research, teaching and service of clinical cytology; for his loyal support of Acta Cytologica and the International Academy of Cytology as author, teacher and reviewer.

David Kaminsky, MD, FIAC

For his lifelong love of and dedication to clinical cytology; for his efforts in establishing fine needle aspiration cytology in clinical practice; for his special relationship to underserved areas of the world and his achievements in bringing knowledge and expertise to these areas; for his loyal support of Acta Cytologica and the International Academy of Cytology for many years.
