The Maurice Goldblatt Award

The GOLBLATT AWARD was inaugurated in 1960 by the late Maurice Goldblatt, the founder and Honorary Chairman of the Cancer Research Foundation in Chicago.

The awards are funded in perpetuity by the interest of a $ 50,000 donation in a special account of the IAC. The jury of the Goldblatt Awards consists of The Chair of the Awards Committee and the previous awardees. The Awards have been given yearly since 1961. Recipients have been 53 cytologists from 20 countries. Recipients receive a gold medal and an honorarium.


Goldblatt Award 2008
Dr. Hiroyuki Kuramoto, MD, FIAC, Japan
To honor his life-long dedication to research and teaching in clinical cytology; for his caring attitude as a gynecologic oncologist towards his patients and colleagues; for supporting the long-standing ties between the Japanese Society of Clinical Cytology and the International Academy of Cytology.


Goldblatt Award 2009
Patricia Alonso de Ruiz, MD, FIAC, Mexico
To recognize her persistent dedication to bring medical care to underserved areas; to honor her exceptional talents in sharing cytologic knowledge among colleagues, residents and cytotechnologists; for her caring and generous personality serving as facilitator for the foundation of the Mexican Academy of Cytopathology.


Goldblatt Award 2010
Kari J. Syrjänen, MD, PhD, FIAC, Finland
To honor his outstanding work as a researcher of all aspects of cancer development at various sites; to acknowledge his loyal support of all activities of the International Academy of Cytology over many years; to recognize his outstanding contributions to the international scientific literature.
